Buying a used computer, beware!

Threatpost.com reported about this issue. It is initially being dismissed in comments due to the need for Root as well as potentially physical Access to the machine. Wouldn't that be a case if you bought your machine second-hand? Buyer beware as this is NOT removable through flashing/wiping or anything else for that matter (as far as a layman can tell).
